About the exhibition

Discover an unprecedented historic automotive event in Riga! A unique exhibition of cars designed by Riga-born visionary Anatols Lapiņš will celebrate the 75th anniversary of Porsche. From September 22 to October 15, Riga Motor Museum will showcase historic Porsche cars from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart and Latvian car owners. Do not miss the opportunity to see, for just 21 days in Riga, unique cars from the transaxle era at Porsche that have by now become a sought after rarity. A special feature of the exhibition will be a car that caused a sensation at Le Mans in 1971 and will visit Latvia for the first time: the 917-20 model, also known as the “Pink Pig”.

Anatols Kārlis Lapiņš

Models

Porsche 356

The Porsche 356/2, which featured a rear engine rather than the mid-engine, made its first trade fair appearance in Switzerland at the Geneva International Motor Show in 1949. Approximately 78 000 Porsche 356 Coupe units were produced until 1965.

Porsche 924

One of the first sports cars with a front-mounted engine. Known for its stable handling and versatility, it embodies Lapiņš’ commitment to innovation and practicality.

Porsche 928

The first Porsche Gran Tourismo combined three cars in one: a high-performance sports car, a comfortable luxury sedan, and a versatile utility vehicle.

Porsche “930 Turbo” jeb “911 Turbo”

A high-performance, turbocharged version of the 911, the car was easily recognisable by its wider rear wings and a distinctive rear spoiler framed by hard black rubber.

Porsche 944

Although the body of the 944 was based on that of the 924, it had a much more distinctive shape. This model can be seen outside the exhibition area, at the entrance to the exhibition hall on the 0th floor

Porsche 917/20

The 1971 Le Mans sensation and the most photographed car of the year, the Porsche 917/20 or the “Pink Pig” is the star of the exhibition!

Porsche 964

Lapiņš’ influence on the Porsche 964 is a testament to his ability to seamlessly combine tradition with technology that was cutting-edge at the time.

Porsche 968

Although it was developed after Lapiņš’ retirement, its design, which borrows from the 944 with elements from the 911 and the 928, highlights the car’s membership in the Porsche family.
